Chili Bites recipe

For 40 pieces


  • 500g yellow split peas
  • 100grs finely chopped onions
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 25g chopped shallots
  • 5g dried chilies
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 5g toasted and grinded cumin seeds
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 litre oil for frying



Wash the yellow split peas , soak for 4 hours in cold water, drain and mix

Add the remaining ingredients to the batter above, including the salt and pepper.

Shape into small 2 to 3 cms heaps or balls (If you like crispier chili bites, flatten the balls in the palm of your hand, with your finger make a hole in the middle)

Heat some oil in a large frying pan, deep fry the chili bites until golden brown.

Drain and serve hot.
